I am directed by Secretary Sir E. Grey to transmit
to you herewith, for the information of the
Secretary of State for the Colonies, copy of a
telegram from His Majesty's Minister at Peking, to the
effect that the Chinese Government are unable to
meet the coupons of the Canton-Kowloon Railway
Loan due on the 18th instant,
I am to add that the British and Chinese
Corporation intend to inform the Chinese Government that they will not make the advance necessary to meet the coupons.
